Curriculum at Julie's House

At Julie’s House our aim is to support and encourage each child to become curious, effective and motivated learners, with a thirst for having a go and the experience that learning is fun.

Workshop Based Environment

We provide an environment which is workshop based, where children can freely access resources so enabling them to explore and develop their ideas and interests. (Covid has placed some restrictions on this during the pandemic, but we maintain this as our approach and ethos for learning and continue to support this approach in a covid safe way).

We believe that children (and adults) learn best when they are able to focus on things that interest them, trying things out for themselves, working out why things may not have gone to plan and altering/forming their theories accordingly. With the support of responsive adults all areas of learning are covered as each activity is multi-faceted.

“The practitioners are excellent role models who all place the children’s happiness and well-being at the heart of all they do. They place high priority on listening to children and ensuring their ideas and opinions are heard. Children learn to value and respect themselves, other people and the world in which they live”

Ofsted

This environment, and adult support encourages children to develop autonomy, to explore more deeply and to be challenged and stretched in their learning and development.

To ensure that we are providing the most relevant and stimulating play opportunities and experiences we observe each child – identifying their learning and current fascinations. We talk regularly with parents and carers, sharing information about the child’s interests both in the setting and at home. We use the Early Years Foundation Stage EYFS alongside other frameworks to support our daily involvement and provision, this ensures that each child receives individualised opportunities and support.

We are currently developing our setting curriculum, illustrating in more detail the specific and ambitious aims for the children’s learning and development throughout their early years within the setting. More information will follow.

"The team at Julie’s House carefully scaffold child led learning, allowing the children to tailor activities to suit them while closely observing their preferences and development. Even through Covid times the setting has an amazing dedication to ensure the setting is safe, stimulating and a place where children thrive."
