Before & After School Care

At Julie’s House we offer before and after school care for primary aged children and sometimes secondary aged children too. We drop and collect at two local schools – Ashlands Primary and Sacred Heart Primary.

Our morning sessions currently start at 730am and evening sessions finish at 6pm. Each session has a minimum hourly charge.

Philosophy

“The childminder is a superb role model, encouraging children to respect and be kind to others.

Older children show great care and consideration for the younger ones”.

Wrap Around School Hours

In the morning the children are provided with a healthy, hearty breakfast and opportunity to play before walking to school. Evening sessions are much the same, we walk home, enjoy a cooked meal, support to do homework and lots of opportunities for playing with friends. In the summer we sometimes go out for tea – a BBQ on the field is our favourite treat.

As a home based setting the children who attend range from 1 year old to 10/11 years and the children all play together in the school holidays and around school hours. They offer each other friendship, fun, support and sometimes challenge, all of which helps them to develop a strong sense of themselves, understanding and care for other and younger children, and supports them to develop empathy and understanding.

Open Air

Holiday Club at Julie's House in Ilkley

In the school holidays we make the most of our opportunities to experience longer days and will often be busy with a particular activity at the setting or take the chance to go out for the full day.

We may be found shopping and visiting a café, buying ingredients for a big baking day, or perhaps catching a train trip to the fountains in Bradford City Square to play, paddle and enjoy some fish and chips for lunch. We visit many of our local amenities and facilities – our various parks, local woodlands to cook on a fire and play games, or visits to our many fabulous museums and galleries. We have annual memberships for Harewood House, Harlow Carr and Bolton Abbey and we love to visit, explore, play, picnic or BBQ.

Alternatively we might be spending the day at the setting, we might enjoy some crafts, play games or hold a day with a theme – in previous holidays we have built a beach in the garden, held a festival in the garden, baked treats for the neighbours – we have lots of fun!

Meals & Menus

Our meals are home cooked with produce sourced locally as much as possible, or from suppliers of fresh, high quality produce (Furniss butcher/bakery, Regal Fish, Delifresh, McQueens Dairy) and the menu is varied and delicious. We tailor the menu to the preferences and needs of the children, and it is also designed to encourage them to try new tastes and textures. Our mealtimes are sociable and communal, the children all sit and eat food together, chatting and enjoying the experience. In the holidays when we have trips out we supplement the cooked lunchtime meal with either a café meal or a picnic.

"All the children they look after have an amazing time when they are there, whether they are playing in the mud kitchen, learning a new skill like cooking or going off to explore new places. We couldn't have picked a better team to look after our little boy, his little brother will be following in his footsteps when I go back to work."
